[ if reki had a much clearer perspective, it would probably occur to him that his downright catastrophic reactions to innocuous enough comments ought to be a good topic to talk about too. but that still feels like too much; all of it still feels like too much, like he's got one foot out the door constantly even though that's clearly not the case.

what helps is that look, the reassurance that this is important. he relents with a soft sigh, dropping his hands but snuggling closer. ]

[ qi fang thinks to maybe sit up before beginning, but he realizes putting any kind of distance right now isn't going to be helpful. in times like this, it seems to him that reki benefits a lot from touch and other reassurances like that, so instead he just curls his arm around reki even tighter, running his hand up and down along his arm. ]

You said you'd been thinking about giving up S for a while now. I don't want you giving up something you're into just because of me.

[ it would make a world of difference, this closeness and the amount of care that qi fang is expending, if not for the topic. ]

[ that was the thing they were supposed to talk about. right. between the chaos of the day and all those shots of brandy, he'd almost completely forgotten. he flashes a look up at the ceiling when it dawns on him, shaking his head. ]

[ qi fang waits patiently, but ultimately blames the brandy for the lack of elaboration. ]

[ oh he wants to like. talk talk about this. to his credit, reki's only squirming a little. ]

[ like, it's mostly two things in particular, but one he's trying to divert the blame away from, and the other's just too embarrassing to talk about. there has to be something neutral.

I think it's the reason Koyomi's acting out. I'm never around anymore, and between that and... other shit, man, I dunno. It just seems like it'd be better for everybody.

[ well. that much qi fang can understand. there's still a lot of this relationship stuff he's figuring out, but he has a pretty solid idea he doesn't want to be the reason anyone gives up anything. that's a lot of pressure on someone who doesn't really give himself enough credit on on not fucking up. ]

Does that everybody include you?

[ that's a good question. it's obvious from the way reki's eyes dim that he hasn't thought about it at all. way too many complicated thoughts and right now there isn't enough time to unpack all of them. but he does know what everyone else thinks, so. ]

[ qi fang shrugs, reaching up to brush some of the low-hanging fringe from reki's brow. ]

I dunno... You like it a lot. You've got friends there too, right? There's gotta be some good in that.

[ reki just frowns at him. ]

I thought you'd be happy about this. You hate it when I come home all banged up.

[tongxue]

No, I... Trust me, seeing you banged up less is high on my list of things I like.

[ he lifts a hand to reki's cheek, thumb brushing against the apple of it. ]

I just want you to be sure, y'know?

[ reki turns his cheek into the touch, but his gaze remains fixed and resolute. ]

I'm sure I like you and I'm sure I don't wanna waste anymore of the time we've got, it's pretty simple after that.

[ maybe he's pushing too much. push too hard, and aren't you just asking for something to break? besides, decisions can always be revisited, redone. nothing's set in stone here, and despite a part of him still thinking all of this is way too good to be true, maybe he should just — let it happen. be happy about it.

so he relents with a soft sigh. relieved, to be honest, now that he lets himself feel it. he can't reach his lips as they are now, so he'll just plant a kiss atop reki's head instead. ]

[ reki smiles softly, his cheeks flaring with heat. thank god this hand is here for him to bury his face against. ]

I like you so fucking much.

[ this is a way better conversation. reki's mood is instantly improved, back to nothing but sunshine, and eventually he even slithers his way out of hiding to throw his arms around qi fang and pepper his jaw with kisses. ]

It's revolting, honestly.

Yeah, but who cares.

[ that was easy. maybe not the easiest, but it was far easier to work through than he initially thought. for now he's just going to trust that this decision will work out for reki and them both. in the meantime he's going to let himself enjoy this, this little victory of them overcoming a hurdle, and the pure affection pouring out out of reki as he holds him close. ]

Now you have all this free time, huh? Whatever could we do with it...

[ imagine, being able to stay conscious for the whole day instead of having just enough energy to fool around between naps. that alone is going to change everything. ]

[ suddenly, this feels like he's still too far away. reki wriggles his way up, until he can press his forehead against qi fang's and sink blissfully against him. ]

It wasn't an invitation for competition, [ he mutters quietly, apparently already getting a head-start on the sulking. slowly he worms his hands underneath reki's shirt, echoing that desire to be closer and closer still. ]

We'll get Chihiro and Nanaka something too, so they don't end up swiping whatever I manage to win you.

Good idea. Maybe if we get 'em chewtoys they'll stop trying to eat the furniture.

[ reki isn't sure what's better: the vibe, or getting to luxuriate under qi fang's touch like this. he makes a low, pleased little noise in the pit of his throat, but he's back up again in a second, kinetic as ever. ]

[ how can he possibly stop the cheesy grin that spreads across his lips when reki is being this cute? ]

Yeah, that's a thing. [ he lifts a hand to start tucking errant strands out of reki's face, behind his ear. ] We can do whatever you want, man. The whole day can be ours.

[ reki's grinning too, but his has a little more spice to it. ]

[ yeah, qi fang knew it was coming. how could he not, by now? ]

[ yeah, reki's had his suspicions that most other teenagers are just bored most of the time. but now it's different; qi fang makes things like walking fun when it's never, ever been before. ]
