Not that long ago.

[ qi fang doesn't need to know that this is his place to hide away when he's sad but not so depressed that he can't get out of bed, his own little cocoon of better days he can fall into whenever he needs it. anyway, his mouth is too busy to explain, nursing the metal tip of the blunt as he sways their hips together, enjoying this moment for what it is. he fills up his lungs with smoke, grasping at qi fang's chin, breathing it slowly into his mouth. ]

Just wait'll the sun starts to rise, my dude.

[ ahh so they really will be out till dawn. he makes a quick mental note of it right before his lips part and his lungs start to fill with that thick, heady smoke. it's fine, he thinks as his head dips instinctively, fitting over reki's lips to seal their mouths together in a slow, indulgent kiss. so long as i can make it out of here by lunch, it's fine...

he repeats it to himself like a mantra, a meager attempt to remember something important but not important enough that it can occupy his mind like reki currently is. there's no music but they're swaying in place anyway, moving instead to the ebb and flow rhythm of the ocean. he thinks to say something about the sun, how reki's smiles can outshine it any day, but he's still got enough sense of mind not to tease the other boy so mercilessly like that. ]

[ reki's fingers curl against his face, and already qi fang's skin feels warmer, so profoundly soft that it sends his mind in spirals. he's lucky for the arms that ground him and root him in this moment, one he's trying to absorb with all his might, as if it can last forever as long as he collects every breathing detail of it.

honestly, the ocean is the only music he wants to ever hear again; it's the perfect tempo to bring them closer together in a way that feels fresh and new and exciting. life outside this place is so fucking overwhelming that it's easy to forget how startlingly alive qi fang is, moving and breathing and close enough for reki to feel the soft beating of his heart. that means something different here, something he can't stop smiling about. ]

Squeeze me. Really tight.

Don't think I know that kink.

[ he grins, feeling the smoke start to curl and permeate into his veins, warming him like reki's closeness does. he squeezes his arms tight around the other boy's smaller frame, as tight as the new lightness in his body will let him.

but soon even that isn't enough, and in the next second he's lifting reki off his feet then spinning and spinning and spinning them around in place until his center of balance skews and they're tipping over into the sand, a tangled mess of limbs and giggles. he rolls them over until he's laying on top of reki, looking down and feeling his heart fill up with that sun-kissed warmth. ]

You should kiss me.

[ qi fang squeezes and squeezes until he's breathless, which is exactly what he wants, his arms leaving an impression that will surely last forever. and then they're spinning—flying, really—the world a blur around them just like back on the bike, but even better this time because reki can see his eyes flash with moonlight every time they complete a revolution. nothing he's ever done has felt so exhilarating, even when they go tumbling into the sand, reki giggling so hard that he can't stop it anymore. ]

Okay, [ he says, pursing his lips, brows drawn seriously. it's not like they've never kissed before, far from it, but the haze in his mind is making the concept fucking hilarious. he loses himself to laughter again, weakly stroking qi fang's face until he can pull himself together. ]

Close your eyes. Don't look at me, you're throwing me off!

Is this funny to you?

[ he does his best to feign offense, scrunching his face up to comically injured, but it's pretty hard to carry through when he also can't help the little bursts of laughter that come out over seeing reki so carefree and flustered. ]

Huh? Am I a joke?

[ and, well. there's really no other way to carry on after that but a tickle fight, right? he's at a perfect position to do just that, too, with reki pinned down beneath him and the soft sand. his fingers spider-walk their way up and down reki's sides, looking for his weak spots without mercy. ]

[ reki was dying before the interrogation began; being leaned into and ruthlessly questioned has him rolling. weakly, he tries to throw up a hand, one that quickly flies off beyond his control when qi fang starts tickling. his body lifts off the sand, writhing, unable to stop moving when every part of him is so ticklish. ]

Stop— No!!

[ he can't even see, his eyes too full of tears from laughing so hard, and he's nowhere near strong enough right now to rebuke him. instead, he settles for wrapping his arms around qi fang, which only serves to keep him close—but it's comforting and it feels nice and it's what he does while he's racked by uncontrollable laughter. ]

[ color him pleasantly surprised to find that reki is ticklish everywhere. as if reki couldn't get any cuter... it honestly feels kind of criminal, like no one person should be allowed to be this magnetic, this addictive. and yet at every turn qi fang just finds himself faller deeper and deeper into all of reki kyan.

soon enough it's hard to tell whose laughter is whose, let alone which one rings out the loudest. when reki tries to smother him to stop, qi fang finally relents, letting his hands press flat against reki's sides, holding him just as close, just as tightly. his nose wound up buried in reki's neck, so that when he breathes in deep all he smells is the boy himself, filling him with a comfortable warmth. feeling a sudden surge of sentimentality, qi fang presses a soft, tender kiss there, and shifts his arm so that they're wrapped tight around the other. ]

This is nice, [ he hums. ] Thanks for liking me.

[ fun as that was, it's nice to be able to breathe. even nicer to have qi fang tucked under his chin and wound all around him, warm and shielding him from the breeze that would no doubt sink straight into his bones were he not there. it's like that a lot, reki realizes; so much of his life is better when qi fang is near. ]

Course I like you. You're...

[ fuck, all the things that he can say. how all of this feels like a dream because he still can't believe he's found a reason to spend most of his days laughing with someone special. how undeniably they belong together, how every second he spends in his company feels like the beginning of some great adventure, how he's never, ever felt like this for anyone else before, so full of warmth that he can feel himself glowing.

and then he realizes that he hasn't spoken in a long time, which is funny enough to make him snort-laugh and erase his train of thought completely. ]

Mmmmmm... [ he admits, bashfully. ] I forgot what we were talking about.

[ he doesn't even mind the silence. it's not like he was particularly looking for reassurance at the time, more just spilling the words out of his mind that he would normally try to stifle down when they're together anyway. in this silence, he can soak up the look in reki's eyes, somehow both far-off and rooted right here, pinning him in this moment in time he wants to bottle up forever. ]

Something about me being fucking awesome, I think.

[ his grin is wide, crooked and lazy, and he can't help the fondness that softens his kisses that drops all along every inch of skin he can reach — mostly reki's chin and throat. ]

[ oh right. that was it. honestly should have occurred to him, considering it's practically all reki thinks about anymore. ]

You are pretty awesome.

[ he says it in a dreamy way, like he's drifting off, even though he couldn't look more present. sure, his eyes look a little sleepy, but that's the bud's work; qi fang has more of his attention now than ever. not just because he's suddenly fascinated with how fun it is to lightly tug those loose curls in his face one by one to watch them spring when he lets go. ]

You're my favorite person.

Shit, that's high praise. You know a lot of real interesting people.

[ as someone resolutely convinced he's quite plain, he can't help but feel awfully flattered. it makes him feel kind of bashful, the high points of his cheeks coloring, and he attempts to hide it by leaning down and nuzzling his nose against reki's, like he's forgotten for the moment that kissing is an option. ]

You're mine too, though. Hands down. [ ... ] Don't tell Sun Jing.

[ it's not. it can't be an option anymore. it's just far too silly. even this is pushing it; reki looks like he might lapse into a giggle tantrum at any moment. ]

Mm...

[ were it not for this recent development he's seriously considering now, that is. his brows draw low as his gaze shifts. ]

I dunno that I like being the one who homewrecked your situation with Sun Jing. That's not cool.

[ it's such serious concern on reki's expression that it has qi fang pausing, blinking rapidly as he considers things. but after a moment he shake his head, resolute. ]

Nah, you didn't, don't worry. Sun Jing did that all herself when she started dating Qiu Tong.

[ back to nose nuzzling, and the errant nuzzle to a cheek when his aim gets wonky. ]

You aren't a homewrecker, babe. You saved me from a lifetime of loneliness.

[ well! it's a valid concern. either way, reki's definitely lurked sun jing's insta, so he Gets It. good for them, they seem happy.

the girls have that and they have this, which seems like it's worked out for everybody, so it's not something he's about to dwell on. he's far more interested in the tingles qi fang's cheek-nuzzling is creating and that last thing he said. ]

You were lonely?

[ not anymore. reki's arms tighten around him to make certain of it. ]

[ to be honest, qi fang's just saying shit. truthful shit, but he definitely hadn't really been thinking about his words as he said it. he and sun jing are still ride-or-die best of friends, always will be, but now they've both opened their worlds to special people and... yeah. it's pretty cool.

as for the other part, well. it's not something he actively thought of before. ]

...Yeah, I guess I was. A real specific kind of loneliness.

[ he sighs in thought a little, mildly preoccupied with brushing some bits of sand off reki's cheek. ]

I never really got it, you know. Why people wanted this kind of thing. [ a relationship. in the past, it had seemed far more trouble than it was worth. but now... ] I get it now, though. Like — [ words, what are words ] — being with you fucking rocks.

Right? I feel like being with anyone else but you would fucking suck. I mean, I guess that's the point, but I never got it either.

[ just seemed like some shit that'd cut in on his skating time. unless he managed to find something like in that one lupe fiasco song but—everyone knows shit like that doesn't happen in real life. and there'll never be anyone at S he wants to date, not a chance. ]

Like way too much work... But, like. I'd do anything for you.

[ emphasis on the anything, which he's learning right in this moment is true. he can't think of a single thing he'd refuse if it meant keeping this. what a fucking trip that is. ]

[ well. there is definitely still a part of qi fang that Doubts — that wants to believe reki when he says he doesn't need S if he has him, but ultimately can't fully when qi fang is convinced of how much it means to the other boy.

but.

such thoughts aren't welcome right now. not when they're both feeling so warm and weightless. ]

Anything...?

[ there's a twinkle in his eye, the kind that can only spell mischief on the way, and it won't be long before his fingers begin to dance down reki's sides again, his intent clear. ]

Are you sure about that, babe?

[ reki is trying really hard to give that question its fair shake, but he keeps coming back to how he still kinda really wants to kill that guy for maybe possibly attempting to drug his boyfriend. like, he's not even sure that's what they were doing, but just the gesture itself is enough to warrant a lifelong grudge. ]

Mnn...

[ he squirms beneath qi fang's fingers and fixes him with a plaintive gaze. the tickles are too much, but... he'll take them. ]

Yeah, anything, but you should still be nice to me.

[ well damn. if that all just doesn't hit him right where it counts. qi fang's fingers stop, and after a moment he dips his head forward to rest it against reki's shoulder. ]

How'm I supposed to say no to that, huh?

[ he noses his way up reki's cheek, inhaling the smoke still lingering on his lips. ]

You make me melt all over, y'know?

[ apparently kisses aren't funny anymore, because qi fang nuzzles in close and reki moves like a bear trap, limbs curling around him to ensnare him, pulling him in close for a soft, slow kiss. ]

I dunno how...

[ he's not stopping either, just breaking it up into quick, pecked little kisses instead. ]

But whatever keeps you here... [ 💋 💋 💋 ] ... I'll keep doin' it.

[ the kiss doesn't zap any of the mirth bubbling between them; rather, it just coats everything in a warm haze not unlike the lust they usually share. qi fang makes a low, appreciative sound in the back of his throat, chasing after the kiss as soon as reki even so much as moves a centimeter away. ]

Just you. [ he presses a kiss to the corner of those irresistible lips. ] Being you.

[ as if he's not way too high to move around that much. the best reki can do is purse and un-purse his lips; the rest is all just murmurs pressed right up against qi fang's mouth. ]

For real?

[ add to that these little twitches of motion while he rubs their noses. he likes that, how it feels sweet in a different sort of way. also it's the way animals kiss in cartoons and his not-so-inner child is living right now. ]

'Cause I wanna keep you for, like, a long time.

[ it's a lot to pay attention to and keep track of, but in the end they're both a little too high to not make clumsy little mistakes. he leans in for a kiss when reki tries to nuzzle, a nuzzle for a nose boop, a laugh for a soft smile, vice-versa. but it's all so wonderfully them at the same time that even the little mistakes feel just right. ]

We can do that.

[ there's a brightness in qi fang's eyes that can only be called hope.

eventually he leans down, fitting himself around reki's chest to rest his cheek on a shoulder, curl around him close. ]

Let's do that.

You're on, [ reki says, and the little shiver of excitement that moves through him is no secret between them when they're this close. there's so many other things he wants to say, especially right now, when his brain is so nice and open and this place they've made for themselves feels so safe and eternal, but he decides against it. maybe some other time, when they're not both being total space cadets.

instead, he rubs off the sand on his palm with his shirt and flicks the rest away so he can stroke through qi fang's hair. ]

I like when you lay on me like this. [ which makes him recall, with a soft giggle: ] Y'know sometimes when you're sleeping, you roll over and crush the shit outta me and it's like my favorite thing in the world for some reason.
