[ qi fang is struck, momentarily, by the tone of reki's voice. so so different from the coyness when they're alone, and different too from the almost surly teen angst up on the rooftop. it makes him pause, but only enough to catch a breath, and then he's leaning in like a comet being pulled down to earth. he's got a hand there at reki's jaw, keeping that angle steady as his tongue plunges into the other's mouth. no time, there's no time, so it goes from 0 to 60 in a second, maybe even less, like he's using this opportunity to pour all his unspoken desires into a single kiss.

and there's the bell, a harsh slap in the face of two dumb boys who were just on the cusp of admitting something — maybe not put loud, but at least to themselves. when qi fang pulls away, his lips are red and raw and he's still gasping for that stupid breath. the bustling sound of movement and chaos echoes from outside the bathroom door and qi fang can't believe there's still half a school day left to endure. slowly, he starts to adjust what he can of reki's clothing, still leaning heavily against that door. ]

Call me. I can leave practice early.

[ that kiss makes him believe in a lot of shit he was always far too jaded to ever fall for. now all of it feels real, that kind of magic that only exists in movies, a kiss that's cinematic and slow, that stops the whole world from turning because it's just so fucking powerful. and then the bell rings and he guesses it wasn't after all.

still doesn't change the fact that he has no idea what to do with himself when that bell cuts through this soft reverie. it's not like he can do anything but step away and start piecing himself back together—but qi fang is doing that for him and it's making his heart do the stupidest shit in his chest. ]

Nah, I can wait.

[ lies. he has to gnaw on his lip to punish himself for that one. ]

Uh, before you go. Pizza sound okay?

[ they're both dawdling and yet it still feels all too soon when they finally draw apart. he should really get going but instead he's reaching out again, swiping a thumb just below reki's lip to wipe up some lingering spit. he really can't stop touching reki, it seems. ]

Pizza's good. I'm cheap and easy, remember?

[ alright alright. back to reality, back to the grind. it's not like it's forever, they're literally going to see each other again in a few hours. they're going to get to do more than that, too. with a final wave takes his leave first, again, sparing only a couple of seconds to reorient himself in front of the mirror. he feels stupid stealing one last look over his shoulder before he goes, but that lingering high is carrying him through that he isn't all that embarrassed anyway. ]

Yeah you are.

[ first he's smiling, now laughing? absolutely fucking ridiculous. today was his mope around moodily day. once again, qi fang's fucked all the carefully crafted plans he's made for himself and replaced them with this exhilarating desire to steal more of his time away.

it throws his plans to ditch, too. he's already late by the time he's cleaned himself up and it'd be so easy to just hop on to his board and slip his next class, but once he leaves the bathroom, he finds himself heading there anyway. he immediately regrets it; trying to sneak in through the door soundlessly only prompts the resident tattler to start gesticulating wildly and call out, "reki's late!" at least now he's right back to feeling moody again as he slumps into his seat, trying not to cast a look across the aisle at where qi fang is sitting.

he makes himself a promise to ditch after the next class, and then the class after that, and then before he knows it, he's standing at his locker after school, wondering what the hell he ought to do now. he could trot over to where he can see qi fang chatting with a thin crowd of other kids, ask to pull him aside and demand that he cut practice even though he told him to go in the first place, but even trying to think about doing that is dizzyingly mortifying. even waving good-bye just like everyone else feels too much like an implication when he did just suck him off in a bathroom. obviously a plan with far more subtlety is required.

but reki isn't a subtle person, so he settles for the old failsafe: bullishly bumping his shoulder into qi fang on his way past. coupled with a look and a muttered: ]

Watch it.

[ it's the best he's got. ]

[ honestly, the rest of the day goes by in a daze. save for the mild disturbance that reki's late arrival in class provides, nothing eventful really happens... though perhaps in contrast to having had his dick sucked in the boy's bathroom, not a lot of things would stand out. they both more or less slip back into their roles, but this time qi fang finds himself having to dedicate an awful amount of energy to maintain his careless grins and easy laughs. there is still a buzzing in the back of his head that won't leave him, half-parts lingering high and half-parts budding anticipation for the night ahead. after school, while lingering by sun jing's locker as the pair discuss weekend plans with a handful of other students, he catches a quick flash of red before feeling the sudden jolt against his shoulder. the "hi" that had been on the tip of his tongue dies out when reki sends him a sour look, but rather than be dismayed by it qi fang just feels amused. what a brat. had a teammate not already grabbed his elbow to drag him off to the gym, he probably would have followed right behind the other.

honestly, he wishes he did. getting through classes is one thing, but spending the next few hours running laps and practicing layups just isn't the kind of exercise he'd rather be doing... it's silly, because they literally have plans to meet up for the evening, yet here he is unable to wait just a couple of hours. when did he become this guy??

there isn't a lot of time for decisions to be made, so instead he leaves it up to the other again. he sends over a picture he'd quickly taken in the locker room right before they were sent out to do drills: qi fang standing by his locker, aiming his camera at a full length mirror just across, the hem of his jersey drawn up into his mouth so show off the pecs and abs he is shamelessly flexing. and accompanying that, a message: ]

Offer to leave practice early still stands

[ it's fine. he's not mad at all, watching qi fang get dragged off by someone else. there's no reason for him to get bent out of shape about it, not when they're literally all set up to chill in a few hours. his manager's already busted his ass about calling out, pestering him throughout his classes to tell him what's really going on, so now he can do... whatever. probably head out into the green and put a few more nicks on the rails out there. or—probably more likely—pretend to do that, but actually hang around outside the gym and steal totally covert glances at practice.

his phone buzzes in his pocket, stopping him in his tracks. which is a stupid thing to get excited about, the prospect that it might be someone in particular. instead, it's even better. his brow raises, his gaze shifts, and he leans into a darker corner of the hall, narrowing his eyes at his phone as his stomach tightens sharply. fuck.

this asshole. how many times is he going to have to jump him in public places before he gets the consequences of doing shit like this? it's not even his fault now, forcing qi fang to blow off practice. what else is he supposed to do, not fuck his brains out? ]

[ look, it's fine. it's still early enough in the season that one missed practice isn't going to hurt anybody, so if he's going to do it the best time is now. especially considering this one's a student-run practice, so he doesn't have to worry about any coaches getting on his ass. doubly lucky for him is that he happens to be good friends with the captain, who doesn't do more than roll his eyes and wave qi fang away when the blonde offers some meager excuse for his sudden need to depart. common sense tells him he should head back to the locker room to change and get his things... but he's also pretty sure he caught size of a head of wild red hair walking past the gym doors a couple of times. if he goes to check and he's wrong, who's going to catch him?

the eagerness he takes off would be embarrassing had the rest of the team's drills not covered the sounds of his sneakers tearing off towards the door. should he have texted first? what exactly did reki mean by "out here" anyway?

the halls are relatively empty now that school's out, and most others who would have stuck around are likely in the classrooms doing club activities. no one really around to catch the way an excited basketball player zooms out from the gym in the hopes of finding another student waiting for him. ]

[ reki whistles sharply from across the hall. yeah, so what it he was nearby anyway? things just work out that way sometimes. the second he's got qi fang's attention, he jerks his chin to urge him over, as if, you know, he didn't just come bursting out of the gym to come find him. it's hard to think about how excited qi fang might be when he's too busy dealing with the weird fluttering feeling going off in the pit of his stomach.

when qi fang joins him, reki leans in to bump him again, this time lingering in his space. the halls are mostly empty anyway. no one's there to witness how bright his smile gets when he starts moving them toward the exit doors, sweetly tipped together like a pair of actual friends. ]

You'd better hope we make it to my house.

[ his voice is low and rumbling and he's gnawing on his lip again, trying to bite back the coy twist of his smile. and then there's the double doors and he just lets his grin take over, flashing it expectantly at qi fang as he waits for them to open for him. like, why stop being a brat now? it's worked out for him this far. ]

[ truthfully, qi fang's not really sure what he'd been expecting when he stepped out of the gym. he figured, maybe, the two would share a filthy kiss or two against the wall, parry off some of the banter that they both clearly enjoy. it doesn't occur to him that things could progress so quickly, not until he feels reki leading him towards the doors which — alright. he definitely should just come to expect this by now. the two of them combined seem to eviscerate all semblance of "chill."

definitely thinking he should have gotten his things back at the locker room, at least, but what's done is done. he can always text one of his buddies to take them home with him. not a problem he even bothers to think more than a second about, which is good because thinking is proving difficult the more reki keeps smiling at him like that.

they make it to the doors and qi fang also pauses in wait because, in his defense, reki had been taking the lead thus far. but as soon as he realizes what that grin's for, he's rolling his eyes in amusement and shoving at the doors with one hand. the other hand? well, that finds its purpose grabbing a handful fo fat ass, using that leverage to push reki out the doors before following him out. ]

Your house, huh? I can't tell if we're doing this backwards or not.

[ reki doesn't even have it in him to work out an appropriately theatrical scoff. yes, sure, the halls are mostly empty, but qi fang's still technically goosing him right out in public. it makes his heart race all over again, just like it had back in the bathroom, another hit of adrenaline singing sweetly in his veins. how he's supposed to pretend not to love every second of this is beyond him, not when qi fang looks and acts like this.

in fact, he's so caught up on how good qi fang looks in a jersey, his bare shoulders all solid muscle he keeps accidentally brushing with his cheek, oops, that it doesn't even dawn on him that he probably shouldn't be wearing that. and probably should have a lot more stuff with him. whatever, he's still stuck on the image of that shirt caught between his teeth and the fucking paradise of hot, sculpted muscle beneath it. they need to get the hell out of here now. ]

Yeah, but not exactly. I've got a shop of my own. Kinda.

[ whatever. he'll see when they get there. and hopefully dodge the insanity of his family completely; their situation's a little too tentative for a meet the parents scenario, right? ]

I mean, unless you'd rather find another bathroom.

[ the light layer of sweat he'd worked up running all those laps for practice has begun to cool off in the outdoor air, making it all the more obvious to him that he really did just up and leave practice for this guy. it's pretty low on the list of craziest things he's ever done (especially consider what they'd just gotten up to during lunch) but for some reason it's really sticking out to qi fang. like, sure this had been a whim. but one he'd really, really wanted to do. ]

No kidding? [ the surprise and interest in his tone is genuine, even despite the faint pang of guilt he receives upon realizing he really doesn't know all that much about reki. not that that's really expected of him — they were classmates among classmates before they ever started sucking each others' dicks — but it also just makes him that much more curious. what does he like? what does he dislike? stupid shit like that. ]

Nice as I think you'd look pressed up against some tile, I think I'll take your shop.

[ is it weird he's almost as excited to see it as he is for what they'll get up to inside it? ]

[ when it comes to classmates, reki's used to expecting disinterest by default. sure, they'll peer at his sketches in home room and send the bravest of their cliques out to ask him if he's in a fight club from time to time, but once their curiosity's sated, they generally don't have anything to say that he wants to hear.

it isn't curiosity he hears from qi fang, though. he's not even sure what it is at first. all he knows is that it makes him feel a little lighter, a little more excited to get where they're going. sure, qi fang's probably going to get sick of fucking around in places surrounded by skateboards real fast if reki gets to keep picking destinations, but that hasn't happened yet.

besides, he's already thinking about how exciting it'll be to lock the door and draw the blinds until it's just the two of them moving in the dim gloom of his garage. fuck this whole being in public thing; it sucks to have to walk down the street like two normal guys. ]

You never did get a chance to bend me over that workbench. [ he reminds him, shooting a significantly less that subtle look his way. ] This's just me keeping my word.

[ it just goes to show you never really know people, huh? qi fang doesn't often dwell on the what-ifs, but he can't help but wonder if he and reki would have ever hooked up any other way, had they not innocuously connected over a few pages of class notes. would he have ever known about this wildness of reki's? or the fact that he can't seem to tear himself away from the other, no matter how much his more sensible side tries to remind him he's shit at these things? he blames this new-found magnetism of reki's on his crazier urges, like wanting to reach out and hold the guy's hand right now.

fortunately, reki offers a suitable distraction from his more sentimental musings. qi fang groans low, eyes squeezing shut momentarily as he tries (and fails) to fend off the image those words prompt in his mind. in his pocket he swears he can feel his phone burn, that photo reki took the night before tucked carefully into a private album. ]

Thanks for that. Now I'm gonna have to fight off a hard-on this whole walk.

[ like he's still not hurting over the same photo that has them in such a rush to get home in the first place. it's weirdly bearable in some abstract way, now that he has qi fang all to himself and they're going back and forth like this, but still. that kind of damage doesn't just settle in an instant. if anything, he's blaming it for this compulsion to make sure their steps match, a tall order when qi fang practically towers above him, keeping close to his side.

the walk home's a lot longer now that he can't make it on wheels, so he figures that he can set himself up to make good on their deal first thing. if he just so happens to keep bumping into that shoulder while he fucks around on his phone, well, it's not his fault. he's distracted. nothing he can do about that. ]

What kinda pizza do you like? Just remember if you say the wrong thing, I'm uninviting you.

[ alright, qi fang has to snicker at that. is he at all sorry for sending that thirst trap, completely unprovoked? no, no he is not. it's what got them here, after all. even if all roads eventually lead to the same destination, he sure as hell isn't complaining over his company during the journey. reki fiddling with his phone actually provides qi fang a great opportunity to lean in as they walk, their shoulders no longer bumping as they are full on pressed together, qi fang partaking in his newfound hobby of crowding in on reki's personal space. ]

If I say the wrong thing can I blame it on the lack of blood to my brain?

[ if he tips his head a bit and noses against some of those wild wisps of hair, mind your business. ]

[ if all of reki's careful reward-based training doesn't result in more unprovoked thirst traps and filthy rooftop banter, he'll be sorely disappointed. it's hard work keeping on top of this stuff. so far, qi fang's given him more material than he knows what to do with. ]

[ it's such a stupid line, but he feels sinfully fucking stupid right now. qi fang's so close and it makes him feel so warm, his skin tingling where he's near despite the lack of contact. even though he's devoting his gaze to his phone, he can't help but slip into a blissful, contented look, his cheeks glowing with a pleasant flush. honestly, they might as well be holding hands for unsubtle they're being right now. ]

[ alright, he'll admit it — he walked right into that one. in his defense it's hard to keep his wits up about it when he can see some color flush on reki's cheeks, how they plump up from the side that tells qi fang the other boy is definitely smiling, and damn does he wish he weren't so tall that he could see it better. ]

C'mon man, go easy on me.

[ an exasperated laugh, a playful shove from shoulder to shoulder. not too hard, though, not enough to threaten their proximity as they are now. ]

Gym shorts aren't exactly forgiving.

[ he shoves his hands in his pockets, none too subtly adjusting himself in the process. sometimes it really sucks to have such a vivid imagination. ]

[ reki is laughing too, lighter and brighter than he has in a long time. he never would have thought that the cure for depression would be dick and dominos, but here it is. his shove back is just as careful, and it's coupled with a cautious glance over his shoulder, like looking will dispell the fantasy.

what happens instead is far, far worse. just like up on the rooftop, and again in the bathroom, he's consumed by the sudden compulsion to kiss him. it's an excruciating urge to fight, but at least the heavy look in his eyes can pass as something related to the topic at hand. ]

Lucky me.

[ he rubs his tongue against a tooth and lets his gaze dip a little lower. man but those shorts do know what's in store for them. ]

Fuck, I hate how hot you are. Go away. Nobody asked for all that.

[ the moments their eyes meet are always a different kind of exhilarating — qi fang swears he can feel this strange electrical current just surge between them, a tangible chemical reaction, and each time he, too, is overcome with urge to just reach out, kiss him. it would be so easy too. reki is so close, and his eyes are so wide — hopeful? — all qi fang would have to do is lean in...

reki's gaze dips and qi fang feels the spell break, somewhat. he's oddly relieved for it, taking the opportunity to suck in a breath like he may not get the chance to again later. ]

"Get out here," you said. I guess technically that wasn't asking, but my point still stands. [ yeah, yeah, his smile is way too smug. ] You asked, I answered.

[ qi fang's way too smug and reki's far too easy a mark right now. his eyes roll, but his face goes bright red. this is what he gets. he should have never looked. ]

Shut up.

[ the worst part is that he can't stop smiling, even as he's playfully shoving qi fang again. probably, now that they're fifteen bumps and pushes deep in the day, he's being painfully transparent about wanting to steal little touches here and there, no matter what he has to do to get them. like he's literally the boy razzing his crush on the playground.

but whatever, beats being honest. ]

You started it. What was I supposed to do, just let you get away with looking like that?

[ if qi fang notices anything, he makes no indication of it. probably because he's just as desperate for the contact, taking advantage of the atmosphere to lean against reki's side as if he were really just doing it to annoy reki, and not just eager for the opportunity to touch elbows or something. ]

Dunno, but I'm glad you didn't. Means my seduction tactics worked.

[ he's not even going to bother denying he got exactly what he wanted. ]

But now that means we're 2:1 on pictures. I'll be expecting mine by the end of the day today.

[ wow, what a fucking bully. weird that reki looks like he just won the lottery, but y'know. every reaction is valid when it comes to ruthless acts of hazing like this. ]
