[ they're a bit more tucked away now, which means it's not all that scandalous for qi fang to reach out a hand on reki's opposite shoulder. to steady him, of course, because a good samaritan wouldn't just let the poor guy stumble and potentially hurt himself further, right? right. the fact that his hand lingers, that it squeezes that shoulder before slowly drifting down the length of reki's arm? well, whatever. ]

[ why does this feel like the best thing that's ever happened to him? stupid. thank god his arms aren't bare so the goosebumps rising all up and down them aren't obvious. he looks up at qi fang, then looks away just as quickly, puffing out his cheeks. ]

[ now reki's not playing fair. how's qi fang supposed to resist a face like that? the brattiness levels are through the roof at this point, and he's just way too weak to do anything against that. so sorry, reki, but you're definitely going to get a puffy cheek pinched. ]

[ WOW. that's two cardinal sins. absolutely unforgivable. reki fixes him with a stare and snatches up that hand before it can do anymore pinching. ]

[ which does mean he's just... holding qi fang's hand. very tightly, so surprised by that sudden development that it takes a second for his fingers to loosen. ]

[ not exactly the way qi fang imagined their first hand-holding to go (and, yes, he's already imagined it shut up) but you know what? he'll take it. they're walking under the shade of a tree, sandwiched by high walls — yeah, he's feeling a little brave, and so when he feels those fingers loosen his wrist twists and he grabs onto that hand himself. ]

[ easy now to tip his head forward, their foreheads nearly touching. ]

[ oh. oh, now they're really holding hands. weird that this has never happened to him before, but for a first time, this is... really fucking nice.

qi fang is leaning in closer too. reki's heart stops outright, then starts pounding so loud he can barely hear qi fang over its frantic drumming. how he manages to form a coherent sentence is a fucking marvel. ]

[ whatever. he can't just let qi fang call him short and get away with it. he rocks up on his toes to close the distance between them and tries to steal a kiss. ]

[ consider that kiss stolen. or maybe not really, because qi fang's already there, ready to meet him halfway. he feels his body move on its own — sneakers scuffling along the pavement to fit closer against reki, hand moving to slot their fingers together like they're the ending scene of some sappy romcom from the early 2000s. he's not even going to hide how much he's been wanting this, coaxing the kiss to deepen with a flick of his tongue along the seam of reki's lips. jesus he can't even wait another couple of minutes, how the hell's he supposed to last through dinner and the night?

when he pulls away it feels all too soon, but there's a burning in his lungs telling him the kiss had been long enough to rob him of air. his eyes scan all over reki's face, a hunger in his gut that's definitely not aiming for pizza. ]

Tell me we're almost there.

[ reki doesn't even like kissing people. something about someone suffocating you with their face just doesn't get him going at all. but when qi fang does it, breathing is the last thing on his mind; he wants to drown in the soft crush of qi fang's lips, come unraveled at the point of his tongue.

he can't stop looking at him, wondering how in the world anyone can be so sexy and handsome and disarming and it not be a criminal offense. there's nothing he can do about this. it's torture.

and then his eyes shift, and then shift again, and he's turning his head, his face darkening to the deepest red. he slaps his free hand over his eyes and groans. ]

... We passed it.

[ fuck, oh god, he was so caught up in everything, this is so embarrassing. ]

[ it's like something right out of a sitcom, the slow blink that comes just a second or two belatedly after reki reveals his folly. qi fang glances around, but it's not like he has any idea where they're meant to be going, but eventually the reality of their situation sets in and he just

he can't help the sudden laughter that just bubbles right out of him. suddenly he wants to kiss reki all over again, but this time fueled by a different kind of lightness. ]

Dumbass.

[ said so, so sickeningly fond. he turns them back around, but this time slinging his arm around reki's shoulders so their joined hands hang down the side. ]

You owe me a workbench to bend you over, don't try to get out of it.

[ reki digs the heel of his palm against his face, on the very verge of a meltdown. the only thing that's really keeping him together is qi fang's arms and that—well, he doesn't even want to think about that right now. he's way over capacity, alleviated only by squeezing the fingers wound around his. ]

It's right over here.

[ hard to miss, with the big stone fence and the twin shisa overlooking the path. reki leads him past the house though, dodging all the high traffic windows, sneaking them towards a shed in the back. ]

[ he quiets down to a low snicker as they finally make it to the property, but that too eventually dies out as his curiosity gets the better of him. soon reki really does have to take the lead, because qi fang's far too busy glancing all around them to see what he can of the place. is that weird? maybe, but he can't help but wonder what kind of place reki grew up in... the fact he's being ushered so quickly towards the back has him thinking he doesn't have qi fang's situation as the only child left living with parents who are very often not home. he actually tries to crane his neck a little to peek into one of those windows, but he doesn't really make any grand attempt because (let's face it) he's not looking to delay their privacy any longer. ]

Are you the youngest?

[ he wonders, honestly. is that why he's so bratty... ]

Nope. Oldest.

[ yeah, there's no good reason for it. this is just how he is. and speaking of, the second he catches qi fang with his lofty head anywhere near a window, he grabs a fistful of his shirt and yanks him back down. let's not tempt fate, mister. ]

And my family's insane, so unless you wanna get caught up in all that, stay down. C'mon.

[ he's on some mission impossible shit from here. they're passing the kitchen, aka the heart of enemy territory. for what it's worth, something within smells absolutely divine—which is even more cause for concern. reki holds out a hand while he carefully peers through the screen door, then emphatically waves for him to follow. ]

[ it's not that he wants to tempt fate, per se, but he can't help but be curious! there's so much about reki he doesn't know, and so much more he thought he had a handle on that just wound up being so, so wrong. but he's not nearly curious enough to risk ruining their night, or incurring reki's wrath... so he ducks his head obediently, following along with the lightest footsteps as possible.

that smell though... reki mentioned his mom's cooking before, and it just reminds qi fang how long it's been since he's had a homecooked meal. he presses a hand over his stomach, as if to pre-emptively tell it to shut the hell up, and dutifully keeps close behind reki. now is that just his imagination, or does he hear the pitter patter of little feet...? ]

[ they're so close. reki can see the shed like a light at the end of the tunnel. but then he's freezing, listening, and yup, he hears it too: the unmistakable sound of tiny feet waddling through the grass.

like a bullet, he takes off in a mad dash, swooping up a squealing toddler who presses a sticky hand covered in grass to his lips and proclaims, "weki pizza." reki pulls a face and gives her a raspberry right on her chubby neck, which only prompts her to smear her little fingers all over his face, giggling hysterically. ]

Not for you. How'd you get out here, Chihiro?

[ he looks around and then—ah. one of the windows is open, and he fishes around inside of it to pull what looks like the same toddler off the chair that's been pushed up against the wall on the other side. this one is giggling, flailing, but also stuck on repeating, "weki pizza!" reki sighs and balances one on either hip, casting a weary glance at qi fang. ]

Sorry. You can go wait in the shed if you want. Sounds like I gotta grab the pizza anyway.

[ qi fang doesn't really know what he'd been expecting. reki had literally just told him he was the oldest, and yet his brain can't quite make the connection between those words and what he's seeing right now, the literal object of his ~~affection~~ lust looking ten kinds of Done while still effortlessly managing to wrangle what appear to be two miniature versions of reki himself.

he should probably just go to the shed and wait like a good boy. ]

I... can help?

[ he gestures weakly towards the wriggling children. ]

Looks like you have your hands full.

[ fuck. this isn't what he wanted at all. but it's impossible to think of a better plan when both toddlers are wriggling out of his grasp and pulling at his hair and shouting commands in unison. "weki zoom! weki uppies! weki book!" weki give up. ]

Fine. But I warned you. Koyomi!

[ even though qi fang offered to help, he's already mastered the art of using one toddler to pry open the door and kick it the rest of the way open. he keeps his foot there long enough for qi fang to slip inside, and then—chaos. there's pots steaming, a TV blaring, the clink of silverware being laid out, the manic squeals of the toddlers in his arms, a flurry of footsteps as another girl comes dashing into the kitchen, and a weary sigh as reki's mother (who, yes, is definitely the one he inherited his thiccness from) turns to the pair of them and hones right in on qi fang. she's laying a hand on his shoulder, demanding to know if reki's gotten him into any trouble, oh, you poor thing, while reki animatedly debriefs his other sister on the twins' escape plan.

eventually, he steps in to save qi fang from his mother's relentless insistence that he take a few croquettes with them ("you'll need something that sticks to your bones if you wanna keep up with that boy!"), grabbing him by the elbow. ]

We have food, ma. Stop making me sound like I'm gonna sell him to the freakin' horse track. C'mon, man, I gotta grab something from my room.

[ reki looks so damn aggrieved that qi fang feels a little guilty for delighting in this so much. he's not really sure what it is — maybe the odd juxtaposition of reki's surliness amidst the backdrop of what is obviously a very loving family's intimate chaos. it's a wonderful thing to witness, even if he does get swept up in the current of it as collateral.

not that he's really complaining... he got a whole croquette out of it.

he at least manages a quick thank you to reki's mom before he's dragged away, but boy oh boy is it gonna be hard to wipe that grin off his face. ]

Didn't realize I was messing with such trouble.

[ he's snickering to himself as he follows after, all the while happily munching on his snack. ]

[ nope, no time for bantz. immediately, the twins are in hot pursuit, grandma's peering through the threshold and whistling like a cat-calling construction worker when she sees qi fang zoom by, and reki can hear koyomi hollering about something from the twins' room. he just puts his head down and books it double-time, until he can shove qi fang into his messy room and shut the door.

and then it's just them and all his walls covered in his stupid art and the shelves upon shelves of colorful albums and comic books stacked up upon his paint-spattered floor. this is so embarrassing. ]

Sorry, man.

[ qi fang doesn't look upset. he's grinning, even. naturally, reki assumes he's annoyed beyond repair. ]

[ if it's not one thing it's another, but it doesn't hit qi fang until they've sequestered themselves in reki's room just what it is about reki that's so magnetic — or, at least, one of the things. every part of reki, every inch, everything around him, it all just bursts with personality. there's so much to take in, qi fang doesn't even know if he'll ever fully grasp it all, but it's kind of exciting to think about trying.

he chews slowly around the rest of his croquette, taking a slow pan of the room now that the chaos has more or less been left behind. ]

I think your grandma thinks I'm cute.

[ he grins, finishing off the food with a few more rough bites. then he's reaching over to grab a fistful of reki's shirt, using that to tug him closer. ]

It's fun here. My place is always too quiet.

[ it's so stupid. this shouldn't feel like such a severe form of validation. there's not even anything to validate. it's not like there's supposed to be anything between them but notes and fast food and teenage hormones.

but hearing him say that makes reki want to kiss him so hard. it makes his stomach flutter all over again, his heart drumming away. he thinks it's fun here, surrounded by all the things that are so intimately precious to him. ]

Yeah, she's a total perv. But don't worry, I'll protect you.

[ he's smiling when he lifts himself up on his toes and winds his arms around qi fang's shoulders, nosing into his space for a kiss that's probably softer than it oughtta be. ]

[ maybe it's just qi fang's own ego at work here but he's pretty sure he sees a certain sparkle in reki's eyes when he said that. it does something weird to his chest, makes him feel light and heavy at the same time so he's grateful for the arms around his shoulders, bringing him back down to earth. his fingers are a little greasy from the croquette, but his hands are fitting around the small of reki's back anyway, meeting him halfway again in a kiss that feels like it's been a long time coming.

it is soft too. it has no real business being that soft, especially as a precursor to what was essentially a second booty call, but here they are. qi fang wants to deepen it, actually, but he's mindful of where they are, of tiny little feet that could somehow find a way in the room. he already knows now not to put it past them. ]

Kinda sorry I settled for pizza... Your mom looked ready to stuff me full of whatever delicious-smelling thing she was cooking.

[ reki groans and buries his face against qi fang's shoulder for a second. yeah, the taste of croquettes that he just kissed off his lips is getting to him too. ]

Right? Now I'm craving real dinner.

[ his arms loosen, but just a little. here in the relative quiet of his room, it's proving to be a lot harder to give qi fang up. it feels like it's been an eternity of flirting with the urge, and really, who can blame him when qi fang feels so fucking good in his arms?

he sighs, running one hand down qi fang's chest. ]

Lemme just grab what we need and I'll put together something for you before we head out.

Don't worry about it. Pizza's still good.

[ next time, he almost says, but thankfully manages to bite his tongue before actual stupidity comes out. next time... what the fuck is he thinking?

he glances down, sees reki moving his hand over his chest and absently mimics the motion with a hand at the other boy's back. ]
