[ by the time reki's gotten to his seat in homeroom, it feels like the night before was all just some sort of hazy, surreal dream. a lot's happened since then; for one, his arm is bandaged all the way up to the elbow, compliments of a gnarly gash he got bailing straight into a cluster of jagged rocks, he's probably killed off half the brain cells he's got left skidding on his face, and the unfathomable weight of last night's loss is heavy on his mind. kinda hard to think about anything else when he can still hear his skateboard crackling beneath the flames. fuckin' sucks, man.

it takes awhile for him to zone back into reality. really, it's less of a zone and more of a jolt, when the gaggle of jeering students crowding around him start to dissipate and he notices qi fang with a start. fuck, he forgot all about those english notes. even worse, qi fang looks so good, fresh-faced and distractingly handsome. reki, on the other hand, looks like he stayed up til the early hours of the morning getting stitched up in the ER and barely slid into class in time for the bell in yesterday's wrinkled clothes. embarrassing.

whatever. he has until lunch to think up a good excuse for why he can't return those notes yet. instead, of course, he sleeps straight through all of his classes and sleep-walks up the stairs to the roof, flopping into his usual spot against the fence, debating whether or not he even wants to be awake to eat. a nap in the sun sounds a lot better, so he pulls his hoodie up and leans his head back against the chain links, letting his eyes drift shut slowly. ]

[ okay so. he hadn't been expecting that. should he have? probably, definitely. but he was well on his way to walking back into the house and now he's lurching forward, stumbling several steps under the sudden weight of one bonafide grade a brat. ]

The fu— [ oh wait, children ] You ass— [ oh no the CHILDREN ] Get'off—!

[ he doesn't crumple, amazingly, and instead bends over, till reki's nearly parallel to the ground, and then he heaves himself back upright so he can stomp a few steps forward and penguin-walk them towards the house. he's grabbed at one arm around his neck, the other gripping a thigh clenched around his hip, teeth grit. ]

I'm gonna crush you to a wall, s'that what you want???

[ trust that reki would be swooning over how strong he is right now—if he wasn't hysterically fucking sent. kind of hard to appreciate anything when you're laugh-sobbing and trying to hold on for dear life at the same time. ]

Don't forget who's in the position of power here.

[ he whisks his fingers against a tickly-looking spot on qi fang's neck. ]

Careful, bro.

[ instantly, qi fang stands frozen, neck suddenly snapping to try and evade those fingers as humanly possible. he sends a withering glance to the side, lips pressed grim. ]

Shocker, you play dirty.

You started it.

[ what, did he forget? that's fine; reki owes him some payback anyway, which he'll achieve by pressing a quick kiss to those grimly-pressed lips, fingers burying in his hair—and then holding it like reins. ]

Now giddyap. Take us to the ramp.

[ he isn't expecting the kiss so both the suddenness and the intimacy of it startles him enough that any form of complaint he might have had about all this goes right out the window, so to speak. the tug on his hair is also a nice reminder of the last time reki had had his arms and legs around him so... yeah. yeah he's easily placated. ]

All this noise we just made, what's the point of even sneaking back in...

[ not without some grumbling though! and yet, he is a dutiful steed, moving back towards the opened window so he can hope to deposit his load (hah). ]

... Did we really make that much noise?

[ he doesn't know. he's loud! everything seemed like a perfectly reasonable volume to him. but thanks, now he's red all over again for the dismount, his stomach all twisted up with anxiety. ]

You go first.

You just wanna look at my ass again...

[ here, accept his peace offering of extra banter. pretty please? he'll even add in an extra wiggle to his hips as he climbs back through that window and — is it just him or is it so much smaller now? ]

Shut up—you're right, but shut up.

[ yeah, that's a pretty sound distraction. and anyway, if his family saw anything, they'd all be piled up at the door oohing and awwing right now. better to just enjoy the view before he makes the climb himself, slipping off the desk and leaning against it for a moment. ]

Anything else you want me to grab while I'm out there?

[ qi fang makes himself comfortable perching along the edge of reki's bed, leaning back on his arms and stretching out his back. ]

Hm... Something to drink? Worked up a thirst, you know.

[ reki wishes he fucking wouldn't. how the hell is he supposed to force himself to go get them snacks when there's one right here in his bed already? ]

Yeah, yeah. I'll be back.

[ he needs to get the hell out of here anyway and investigate the situation outside. luckily, everyone seems to have retreated to their own various corners of the house and the twins are asleep on one of the mats. just a short detour to grab them a blankie and tuck it under their precious chins and take a picture while the pizza reheats, and then he's grabbing the that and a few sodas, juggling them all in one hand as he slides open the door with his foot.

all of it's tossed on the bed before reki flops down on his back, returning to his phone so he can fuck around with cutesy filters. ]

Help yourself.

[ by the time reki's returned, qi fang is already back on the bed sitting cross-legged. but trust that the moment the other boy had left, qi fang jumped up to his feet and wandered around, taking the opportunity to look more closely at the various things on display in the room. it's strange, really; he doesn't know why he's so curious, but he finds himself just as hungry to find out more about reki as he is for the pizza he finally returns with.

he makes a grab for a slice as soon as it's within reach, taking a big bite once the smells make him realize just how hungry he actually is. he's chewing on a big piece when he sees reki's attention drift to his phone. he leans over, peeking. ]

Awww. Choose the butterflies.

Yeah, I was thinking that one too. Man, they're so cute.

[ he swipes back to the butterflies filter and then starts fucking with whatever else he can, mostly to distract himself from this inexplicable urge to lay his head in qi fang's lap. he's in a weird enough mood to do it if he isn't careful, he knows himself well enough to know that. ]

And then they wake up.

Runs in the family huh?

[ he finishes off his slice of pizza in two more, far too easy bites. he can already feel his hand itching for another, but he diverts it towards a soda can instead. this, he picks up and presses against reki's cheek. ]

Drink up before you pass out on me.

[ ... ]

You know, before we're meant to pass out.

Yeah. Too bad all I got was the fat ass genes.

[ how considerate of qi fang to make his face burn hot and then cool it off with a cold can. reki offers him the rudest gesture in his repertoire in return and then rolls on to his stomach, cracking the can with a yawn. his head does end up tilting against qi fang's hip after he takes his first sip, because again, there's no trusting himself. ]

M'not even really tired anymore.

[ speaking of fat ass... kind of reki to both verbally and visually remind qi fang of this fact. it's a nice distraction from the gentle weight against his hip, which is really only uncomfortable because qi fang realizes he'd much rather have that weight on his lap. maybe even comb through his hair a little.

—okay, focus. ]

Yeah I can tell. Practically bouncing off the walls right now.

[ what he means to do is reach over and slap that ass again, delight in watching it jiggle. but somewhere along the lines his neurons fire wrong and what he ends up doing is reaching down to ruffle his fingers through reki's hair again, pushing it back off his headband. oops. maybe if he moves to get another slice, it'll be like it never happened... ]

[ okay fine he's exhausted. he got maybe an hour of sleep last night and had a good nap going in english class until the teacher woke him up with a wailing ryukyu shimpo to the back of the head. qi fang ruined his lunch nap personally, though he's glad for it, but now he's just hit the bottom.

he still has it in him to swat around blindly with his injured arm, but that's well after qi fang's fingers have left his hair. ]

Shuddup.

[ he mumbles that and something even more unintelligible, curling around his coke instead. whatever, if he can't have a lap, he'll take what he can get. ]

[ a click of his tongue is what reki gets for his whining, and then qi fang is reaching around to pluck that can right out of his hand. ]

Make a mess on your bed after I use it, huh?

[ he sets it on a nearby bedside table after taking his own swig from it (omg 😳 indirect kiss). that second slice of pizza? tossed back into the box, to be devoured some other time. ]

C'mon, you're taking up all the space.

[ from where he's sitting he can very easily pick up and drag reki from under his arms, but the other boy's dead weight definitely makes maneuvering them around a tad clumsy. he does manage to get them laying on the bed the right way, at least, announcing his triumph with a heavy sigh and drop of his head on the pillow. he closes his eyes, and suddenly it's like his body has just remembered how tired it is. ]

Set an alarm...

Stooooop, I can move myself.

[ he says, and then doesn't. he fucking hates being displaced—usually because it means he's about to a. get a broken arm and another L on his competitive skating record, or b. get shoved into some lockers, but it doesn't feel as humiliating with qi fang. right now, at least. he's way more content to just keep his eyes closed and land where he's put, curling right back up into the same little ball—

—and then groaning when qi fang mentions an alarm. right. he cracks open one eye long enough to set an arbitrary alarm for sometime tomorrow, which looks perfectly fine to him, no use wasting anymore time on this being conscious shit. ]

Done.

[ it's qi fang's fault for trusting reki would wake him up at a reasonable time, but that's going to be a problem for him to deal with in the future. in the present his current problem is trying to make himself comfortable as fatigue is starting to settle into his bones. all the adrenaline from the day feels like it's been zapped right out of him, and in its place is this heavy exhaustion that has him two seconds away from knocking out completely.

he sighs softly, rolling onto his side. reki is facing away from him, curled into a little ball, and he barely resists the urge to reach out and curl around him in turn. instead, he lets out a long yawn, drawn out dramatically as a warmth envelopes him like a blanket. he blinks sleepily at the back of reki's head a few times, finds himself smiling despite himself. when he finally drifts off, it's to thoughts of his hand combing through reki's hair and the gentle weight of his head on his hip. ]

[ when reki finally wakes up, it's with a start, the heart-pounding realization that it's way fucking later than he meant to sleep. he knows exactly how late too, even before he levels his gaze at his traitorous phone and checks the clock with his bleary, light-sensitive eyes, groaning to himself as he—

carefully climbs over the body in his bed. fuck. he's gotta go, but now this is something he needs to deal with. while he gets changed, he debates just going and taking a chance on qi fang not waking up. it's not like he'll be gone for long. but his anxious brain nervously supplies a multitude of nightmare scenarios that could come of that, so once he's made himself halfway presentable, he leans on to the bed, softly rubbing qi fang's shoulder. ]

Hey... Uh, hey... Don't be mad at me, okay? It's late.

[ qi fang is dead asleep as reki moves throughout the room, stirring only once to curl in around the space reki's body had left. the lingering heat there is a small comfort, so much so that when he's finally roused he's reluctant to even turn away from it.

the room is a lot darker than it had been when he fell asleep, and for a second he's disoriented enough to forget where he even is. then reki speaks and he's blinking up at the other, his words settling in. ]

Shit.

[ slowly he pushes himself up, rubbing at his eyes and combing back his hair a few times. he fishes out his phone from his pocket, frowning at the missed messages. fortunately none of them were from his parents. they must have just assumed he'd been in bed by the time they got home. he peers at the time and groans, rubbing his eyes again. ]

Shit, yeah, I gotta go...

[ he trails off, noticing finally that reki is fully dressed. he blinks a few times, brow furrowing. ]

Did you go somewhere?

Nah. I gotta run out real quick though.

[ the frown on his face is twisting, tortured. it's late. qi fang said it himself that the walk between their homes is a long one. the thought of him heading out now, with those sleepy eyes and his bed-ruffled hair— ]

Look, it's so fucking late. You might as well just stay. I'll wake you up when I get back and you can leave then.

[ he checks his wallet, his phone—on the verge of death, but it's in his pocket, rumbling away with messages from oka. reki dashes out a quick reply and glances back up at qi fang plaintively, leaning in a little closer, not bold enough to completely close the distance. ]

It'll only be a little while longer.

[ a couple more sleepy blinks, but each one is less sleepy than the last. he feels like he's a lot groggier, though, if only because he's struggling so hard to figure out what reki's even saying. ]

You have to... what?

[ what the hell is reki up to this late at night?

he starts to move without even thinking about it, swinging his legs off the bed. it brings their faces even closer, but he doesn't close the gap either. ]

I'll go with you.

[ it feels a better option than waiting here, wondering. ]

Nah, uh...

[ he can feel his phone buzzing irritably against his thigh. fuck. all right. now he has to lie to this poor guy. he probably should just let him go. ]

I'm gonna skate there. It'll be faster if I'm alone.

[ which is fucking wild. why should he feel bad? it's not even something he can talk about. but he does anyway, giving this rumpled, cute boy half truths, his stomach twisting as he reaches out to brush a few messy strands of hair out of qi fang's face before he finally forces himself to step away. ]

Gotta run. Do what you want, but... Stay.

[ he's silent a moment, just watching reki, hearing the faint buzz of an incessant phone. suddenly, all at once, several things crop up in qi fang's mind — the whispers from classmates about reki's after school activities, how even other delinquents steer clear of him unless it's to give him a hard time. recollections of reki falling asleep in classes, more than any other teenager would from just normal boredom, the number of times he's shown up to school sporting a new injury...

reki stands, and qi fang's hand shoots out. he wraps his fingers around reki's wrist, fingers lightly brushing the bandages there. ]

Reki — you're okay, right? You don't have to tell me anything but. But you're okay?
