Disposition:


• [ Cheerful ]: Sure, he can be sarcastic, but you'll usually catch Reki laughing, smiling, and joking around with his friends. Even if he doesn't feel it, he'll always try to put on a smile and go through the motions of acting like everything is good. His primary motivation in life is to have fun, which is always better with company, so his first impulse upon meeting someone new will always be to lure them in by exemplifying how much of a good time he's having in hopes that they'll be drawn in with him. This typically results in one of two scenarios occurring: either characters are charmed and influenced by his passion, or they're weirded out and want nothing to do with him. Because of this, his friendships begin and grow very, very quickly.



• [ Passionate ]: Reki places a great deal of importance upon finding his "happiness," which is skateboarding. He will go on impassioned rants about it, he will look up videos and take extensive notes on measurements and speeds until his fingers are bleeding, he will sacrifice sleep and everything else if it means that he gets a little more time to pursue his hobby. This extends to people as well; once Reki decides that he likes someone, their safety and happiness is top priority to him. He will put everything on the line to defend a friend against a bully, even though he knows the odds are not in his favor. What's important is that he showed up, he tried, and he had fun doing it. Winning or losing doesn't matter; it's the experience of doing something that he loves so very much that really counts.



• [ Protective ]: The reason why I decided to go with Amethyst for Reki's gembond is because his entire character arc is kicked off by his inability to back down when he feels like his friends are in danger. He cannot stand bullies and will put his literal life on the line over a few unkind words spoken to someone he doesn't even really know. He obsesses about his best friend's safety to the point where he's having screaming nightmares in class and recruiting his store manager to assist in keeping him away from a dangerous opponent. When that doesn't work, he enlists a top tier skater to tutor that friend, even though it means he has to get roughed up by security a little bit along the way. It doesn't stop at physical harm either; Reki is constantly validating his friends (and enemies, honestly), peppering them with positive affirmations and taking pride in their accomplishments. He breaks bones and suffers major trauma (physically and psychologically) in an attempt to get the primary antagonist to leave his friends alone. (Twice.) It's clear that Reki likes to take care of people when he's always got a fully-stocked first aid kit on hand and falls asleep reading to his non-verbal toddler sisters. He even separates himself from the group when he feels like he can't do those things and isn't going to be one hundred percent on for the people who need him.



• [ Insecure ]: Okay, now discount everything else that I've said so far because all of that falls apart once Reki gets insecure. He begins the show very deeply entrenched in the throes of his own short-comings, falls out of it for awhile, and gets triggered into a depressive episode once again by the midpoint of the show. In this state, all Reki can see is how he fails in comparison to others. He stops caring about his appearance and loses interest in everything that makes him happy. He decides that he's not good enough for his friends and begins avoiding them. Eventually, he's stuck so deeply in his own head that he quits racing altogether and unleashes all of his anger and frustration on his best friend. After a good amount of time, he levels out again, but the insecurity is a constant undercurrent in his mental narrative and it's easily triggered.


Suitability: Reki is a pretty roll with the punches sort of guy. At the beginning, he is understandably overwhelmed by the immense shock to his psyche from arriving in a place like Noctium, but it's very difficult for him to not put those feelings aside when he is in the company of others or has friends to worry about. Noctium will be both a good and bad place for him: Synchrony will afford him a vehicle to explore his depression and feelings of inferiority with the people he cares for, while the gem itself and the transformation of his body will undoubtedly disturb and terrify him. Despite his extracurricular activities, he is just a normal guy, so there's going to be a rocky adjustment period, but with the right company, I think that he'll make it through all right.

Condition upon arrival: Ultimately in good physical shape. Reki always has a few bruises, cuts, and scrapes thanks to his favorite hobby, but nothing that would warrant serious medical attention.

Abilities:


• [ Engineering ]: Reki's a pretty capable hobbyist engineer. He's very good at building things with his hands and even has his own makeshift shop at home. Though he utilizes this skillset primarily to build skateboards, there isn't any reason why it wouldn't be applicable if he decided to build something else.



• [ Skateboarding ]: Reki's on some real ass Tony Hawk shit. In the show, he's pretty mediocre and it takes a lot of strategy for him to be able to hold his own with the top tier characters (mostly because they just fucking throw his tiny ass around), but in real life, he'd be X-Games material for sure.



• [ Resilience ]: Reki can take A LOT of damage. He's suffered repeated trauma to the head (and everywhere else, honestly), he's been dragged across jagged rocks at insane speeds, and he can fall from great heights without suffering shattered ankles. Sure, he breaks a bone here and there, but somehow, he can also laugh it off afterwards.

• [ Backpack ]: Not just a regular backpack--this is a pro skater backpack with custom housing for a skateboard.



• [ Skateboard ]: His own design. A little roughed up, but she's a good, faithful girl.



• [ First Aid Kit ]: One does not simply stroll into Noctium without some trusty band-aids.



• [ Cell Phone ]: Complete with a camera roll guaranteed to trigger a melancholic depression. Until the battery dies, at least.



• [ Notebooks, Pencils ]: They should be for math, but mostly Reki uses it for doodles and notes on skateboard projects.



• [ School Uniform ]: Jet black, svelte af.



• [ Hoodie ]: Sunshine yellow with his own custom print on the front.
